Tell Congress and the White House: Restore humanitarian assistance to Gaza, call for end to blockade

Background: After 11 years of isolation and an Israeli-imposed blockade, Gaza is facing “an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.” Ninety-six percent of Gaza’s wateris unsafe to drink. Gaza’s two million residents have 4-5 hours per day of electricity and the economy is near collapse. Half of Gaza’s residents receive emergency food assistance from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

Despite this crisis, the U.S. announced on August 31 that it would stop all funding for UNRWA. This followed an announcement that the U.S. would stop $200 million in funding for U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) projects in the West Bank and Gaza.

Ask your elected officials to:

  • Immediately restore humanitarian assistance to Gaza;
  • Call on the Israeli government to fully lift the Gaza blockade;
  • Call for an investigation by the State Department to ensure that U.S. military aid to Israel is not used in violation of U.S. and international laws, including the use of force against nonviolent protesters.

Faith reflection: “O God, whose heart breaks for the world, may your justice dwell in the land, may your righteousness abide in fruitful fields, may the effect of righteousness be quietness and trust forever, may the effect of justice be peace—enduring peace.” –From Prayer for Palestine and Israel

Action: Ask Congress and the White House to restore humanitarian assistance to Gaza and call for an end to the blockade.
